Artist Statement
Geraniums in the Snow comes from a photograph taken a few years ago of the
morning after a first snow in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The entire world seemed
to have gone neutral, including the houses, which are painted according to
traditional designs. Only the view in the slivers between the houses showed
blue sky and lake and the humble geraniums on the windowsills of this house
raised the flag of living color.
Bright geraniums on a windowsill can raise the flag of living colour when everything except the sky has gone neutral after the first snow.
Techniques & Materials
Geraniums was hand and machine appliqued of 100% cotton fabrics. It was machine
quilted using a walking foot for most of the piece and free motion quilting
elsewhere.
