Artist Statement
This is my first invitational quilt show.

This quilt is based on an oil painting done by Cathee Clausen, who lives in Dwight, Illinois.

Techniques & Materials
The method for the quilt is based on a technique that was taught by Ellen Anne Eddy. I started with an enlarged drawing of the downloaded picture. Then I reversed the pattern and traced each piece onto a fusible backing. Fuse-a-Shade is used as the base and I fused the hand dyed background to the Fuse-a-Shade. I used hand dyed and commercial fabrics for the appliqué, using each piece of fusible backing (Steam-a-Seam 2) as the pattern. I also fused Angelina fibers together and applied those pieces with Steam-a-Seam 2. Each time a piece of fabric was placed onto the background, it was placed with the pattern on top to make sure the piece was being put into the right place. After the pieces were all in place, the entire piece was fused together. It was then secured with metallic and rayon threads. The final step was to put together the layers and do the final quilting. The batting is Quilter’s Dream cotton. The quilting threads are a combination of glow-in-the-dark metallic, silk and rayon.
