apnq is going digital

Spice Cinamon and Cloves C Wise

When you enter your quilt for Quiltfest 2008 you will be sending us a CD (compact disc) with a digital image of your quilt. This will enable us to process your entries more efficiently, and to streamline the jurying process.  Instead of juggling hundreds of slides and dozens of slide carousel trays, we will load up the computer with your digital images.  Instead of asking you to write really small to fit your name and the title of your quilt on the edge of your slide, you'll easily be able to write your information on the CD you send in.

So goodbye 35mm slide film and processing, hello digital cameras and CDs.

More details will be printed in the APNQ show brochure going to press in August 2007.

Contact us now about Sponsorship

It's not too late to join the team - 40,000 show brochures/entry forms are scheduled to come

off the press in August with all the

details about the next edition of the Northwest's
premier juried and judged quilt show scheduled for August 8, 9 & 10, 2008.  Quiltfest showcases the finest in quilts and fiberarts from Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Northwest Territories, Oregon, Washington and  the Yukon. We expect to top all previous attendance records with Quiltfest 2008 when we debut Quiltfest in our new venue:  the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.  We're sure you want to be represented among those sponsors and donors whose generous support help make it all possible!

As a sponsor, your name and/or logo will be front and center at the show and on the many printed items promoting and distributed at Quiltfest.

Contact our Sponsorship Chair, Lisa Timfichuk: lisat@apnq.org for more information.

See our list of Sponsors as of June 15th listed below.

Quiltfest 2008 Categories

New categories*

offer more entry choices:

  1. Traditional Pieced
  2. Traditional Applique
  3. Traditional Mixed Technique
  4. Innovative Pieced
  5. Innovative Applique
  6. Innovative  Mixed Technique
  7. Pictorial*
  8. Art*
  9. Small
  10. Group
  11. Wearable

APNQ is adding two new entry categories for Quiltfest 2008. The first new category is ART, which we are defining as work that extends beyond the traditional and innovative disciplines, using originality and personal expression in design, color or technique.

Second new category is PICTORIAL, where the entry will represent a recognizable image of a person, place or thing, and may be wholecloth, painted, applique, collage, or any combination of techniques.

All categories from previous Quiltfests will continue to be open for entries, including Traditional and Innovative in  (Pieced, Applique, and Mixed Technique subcategories), as well as Small, Group and Wearable.

Quilt-making in our region has evolved since we last revised our categories, and our intention is to more accurately reflect the trends with the addition of these two new divisions.  We also hope to encourage quilters to try out new approaches and techniques, as well as broaden the appeal of Quiltfest, the premier juried and judged quilt show in the greater Pacific Northwest.

Definitions:

TRADITIONAL:  Based on traditional-style patterns and sets.

INNOVATIVE: Fundamental deviation from traditional patterns and sets using a traditional block or design as a starting point. Quilts in this category should reflect the growth through traditional quilt making.

PIECED: Piecing predominates over appliqué, or other technique either in amount or effect.

APPLIQUE: Applique' predominates over piecing or other techniques in either amount or effect.

MIXED TECHNIQUE:  This category may include any quilt that does not obviously fit into another category.  Examples:  Non-computerized embroidery; yo-yo quilts; Cathedral Window-style quilts; and quilts that are a balanced combination of more than one technique, such as both appliqué and piecing.

PICTORIAL:  A quilt that represents a recognizable image of a person, place or thing.  May be whole cloth, painted, appliqué, collage or any number of techniques.

ART:  Extends beyond the traditional and innovative disciplines, using personal expression and originality in design, color or technique.

SMALL:  Any quilt with a total perimeter of 100" or less.  May be any technique.

GROUP:  Any quilt made by two or more persons including quilting stitches.

WEARABLE:  Fashionable and wearable garment constructed using quilting techniques.  Single pieces qualify and ensembles will be considered as a single entry.

Quiltfest 2008
will be held at the
Washington State Convention and Trade Center.

Washington State Convention and Trade Center

Quiltfest 2008 will be held at a wonderful new location. The Washington State Convention and Trade Center in downtown Seattle provides a larger space for more juried quilts, more special exhibit quilts, more vendors, more lectures, and for the first time at Quiltfest, workshops!  A benefit  of APNQ membership is priority registration to all lectures and workshops. Our faculty includes names you'll recognize like Diane Gaudynski, Anita Shackleford, Yvonne Porcella and many others.

Make sure your membership is current and encourage your friends to join too as the workshops are sure to sell out. APNQ

Plan to stay a night or two downtown enjoying the Emerald City. 2008 will feature more evening events. Start planning now to make Quiltfest more than a day trip.

Our sponsor, Quilt Camp at Sea, has designed an Alaskan cruise for APNQ departing Seattle on the Sunday of Quiltfest weekend.
