This quilt uses raw-edge piecing, secured and quilted over tulle, organza and sheer polyester. I also experimented with metal shim. A series of squares are then beaded together and a freeform border beaded to the squares. 31" x 28"
Judges' comments:
While rooted in tradition, this piece pushes the boundaries of what is happening in contemporary quiltmaking today. Particularly innovative techniques are the joining of the squares via beading, the irregular shape, and creative use of imaginative fabrics. Finally, this piece demonstrates excellent craftsmanship.
