Quiltfest 2008 Workshop Descriptions
APNQ is pleased to offer hands-on workshops for the first time at Quiltfest. Learn a new technique or hone your skills as you learn from the best instructors from around the US and Canada. Sewing machines will be provided courtesy of Pfaff, Brother, Bernina and others, so no need to worry about bringing yours.
More information including supply lists will be posted soon.
Workshop fees: $65 whole day (6 hrs), $40 half day (3 hrs), plus $18 one-time Registration fee –Includes admission on the day of your class, canvas tote, Quiltfest 2008 pin and name tag ($27 value).

Registration will be on a first come basis. No refunds or exchanges. Lost,
forgotten, unused or stolen tickets will not be replaced.
For orders received after July 18, 2008, tickets will be held at Will Call.
For Canadian orders, mailing cut-off is July 13.
List will also be be shipped to participants before workshops. Check back later for online supply lists.

Flexible Fusible Fantasy Fabric Pictures

Use fusible web bonded to cotton fabrics to freely
cut shapes and make a 22” block depicting a fantasy floral still
life or fabulous face. Students will design the block in class and the
machine stitching will be completed at home. Choose to do a fabulous
face, or floral or combine both in the same project. Materials fee payable
to the instructor: $4 for fantasy floral and face patterns and use of

Fine Art of Background Quilting

Sometimes the backgrounds may be the most stunning
part of the quilting designs, or be used as a design by themselves.
Learn a sampling of designs and techniques and improve your overall
free-motion skills. Backgrounds such as Headbands, Bouncing Bananas©,
Mosaic Meandering©, and “Diane-Shiko”© are included.
Learn to be “boss” of your sewing machine! Some free motion
experience necessary. For experienced beginners and above.

Intuitive Quilt Design

quilt designs of the Gee's Bend quilts? Jean will take you through some
design and color technique exercises and you will learn to design intuitively.

Boxy style jacket with or without button front closure fits any body, in any fabric (wool, nylon, cotton, silk), can be lined or unlined; short, fingertip, or knee length. Make it in one fabric or mix and match several wools, cottons, silks. For added interest, the jacket can be decorated with antique buttons, appliqué, trims, wool felting, patchwork and machine quilting. Pattern with or without a collar can be adapted to a soft draped open front by extending the width of the front panels. Free Motion Fabric Art

Let yourself go and learn free motion quilting techniques when you create textured fabric “art” from a fat quarter of your choice of hand dyed or batik style fabric and colored threads. Some guideline marking needed, but mostly motifs that require no marking. Use fabric colors and “blotches” as your boundaries and fill with designs presented in class. No two will be alike, and you will have fun learning on beautiful fabric, with lustrous threads. Frame it or keep it for valuable reference. This is not thread painting, but machine quilting. The apple core is an old traditional design with a lot of appeal. Learn why and how Shar cuts curves with a small rotary cutter and the benefits of using a stiletto while sewing curves. Come to know the need for sewing partial seams when connecting rows of what appears to be a difficult seam to sew. Continuous line machine or hand quilting and bias bindings will be covered in class. by machine. You will learn several methods of machine applique as you

African Motifs in Design

Enjoy a rich array of African textiles made over the centuries, from
Egyptian appliqué, to woven Kente cloth and contemporary printed
and embellished work. After seeing slides and actual textiles, you may
choose to work by hand or machine to make your own small bag or quilt
top. Using an exciting African motif and design approach, you will learn
new ways of breathing life, rhythm and color into your quilts. Tips and
demonstrations on techniques will be given, and you may choose to enrich
your work with embellishments. Materials fee payable to the instructor: $20 for kit containing African fabrics for motif and background, batting and backing, several different embellishing threads and beads. All levels Rosalie's class is full. |
