About APNQ Traveling Exhibits

Since 1998 APNQ has developed a traveling quilt exhibit in conjunction with its biennial Quiltfest. Members representing the geographic diversity of APNQ are invited to submit a quilt interpreting the selected theme. Quilts debut at one Quiltfest, spend the next two years traveling the country being exhibited, and are auctioned off during the next Quiltfest Gala. APNQ's traveling exhibits serve as both fundraisers for the organization and a realization of our mission--to promote the art of quiltmaking in our region and beyond. Since their inception in 1996, these inspired collections have traveled the country and, through the generosity of the quiltmakers who donated their works, have earned more than $135,000 at auction. Past or currently traveling exhibits have been featured in scripted slide shows which are available for group rental; upcoming exhibits are currently being scheduled for venues and will debut at the upcoming Quiltfest. Please click on the links below for more information.

Slideshows

The previously auctioned quilts may still be viewed as part of a scripted slide show, as well as the current 2008 exhibit "The Spice of Life." For more information about renting any of the slideshows for your group, please contact the Slideshow Coordinator at info@apnq.org.

Spice of Life

The Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters is proud to present our sixth traveling exhibit. The exhibit highlights the imaginative potential of the quilt as an art medium, using the expression “variety is the spice of life” as inspiration. Quilters used an intriguing mix of images, techniques and styles – from traditional to contemporary – in their interpretation of the theme. The quilts have spent the last two years traveling the country, showing off the talents of Pacific Northwest and Canadian quilters.

The quilts will be auctioned at the Gala Dinner & Auction 2008 to benefit Quiltfest 2010. Absentee bid forms are available from our office in advance or at the Quiltfest office. This project was generously coordinated by Sharyn Cole. Important Note: “Spice of Life” will be displayed at Quiltfest until 2 pm on Saturday, August 9, 2008. The exhibit will be closed on Sunday.

"Spice of Life" Traveling Schedule

It's a Wrap - A Collection of Shawls, Scarves, Stoles

The It’s a Wrap collection demonstrates how quilters, as fiber artists, can reinterpret shawls, scarves, stoles, even ponchos, as unique wearable works of art. The exhibit has traveled the country appearing at major quilting events. Please contact the APNQ office for the itinerary.

It’s a Wrap will be displayed at Quiltfest until 2 pm on Saturday August 9, 2008, then auctioned at the Gala that evening. Click here to learn more about the Gala event and view the “It's a Wrap” collection.

2010 Traveling Exhibit

Living Colour

Forty-eight APNQ members have been invited to create, in fabric, their interpretation of the phrase, Living Colour. (The spelling of “colour” was chosen to honor our Canadian members.) The creations will become APNQ’s seventh traveling exhibit, and will debut at Quiltfest 2008. After its debut, the Living Colour exhibit will travel to major quilt shows and museums until the 2010 Quiltfest. This project is coordinated by Carolyn Tobin and Teri Bever.
